The Group continues to implement its vertical integration strategy and announces the completion of the acquisition of a second 400 MW power plant

The group Direct Energie, third largest gas and power supplier in France, is pleased to announce today the finalization of the acquisition of the entire share capital of Marcinelle Energie, Belgian subsidiary of the Italian group Enel.

Dedicated to power generation, Marcinelle Energie owns and operates a combined cycle gas turbine near Charleroi in Belgium. Built in 2012 by Ansaldo (Siemens technology), this power plant is operated by 40 employees and has an installed capacity of 400 MW.

As previously communicated, the transaction, fully paid in cash, amounts to an enterprise value of nearly € 36.5. The group reminds that the transaction will have no impact on its 2016 Ebitda.

This acquisition, made again on attractive terms, is in line with the vertical integration strategy implemented by the Group which now operates over 800 MW of power generation assets. This reinforced upstream and downstream presence will improve the sourcing conditions of its customer portfolios both in France and Belgium.

«Combined cycle gas turbines have a crucial role to play in the European energy transition. Thanks to their flexibility and their high environmental efficiency, they are a vital support to the renewable and nuclear production in order to ensure the security of the European power system. With the development of its flexible power generation assets, Direct Energie is pleased to be an actor of the supply energy security in Europe. » declares Xavier Caïtucoli, Chairman and CEO of Direct Energie.
